Introduction to SOPA
This is probably the only serious chain of posts you will ever read in this blog.
A few weeks ago browsing through some news i realized and incredible frequency use of the words "SOPA" (Stop Online Piracy Act) and "PIPA" (Protect IP Act). At first I didn't take it really serious (like many people up to now) until i realized the seriousness behind it.
SOPA is a Bill brought up by the representative Lamar Smith in partnership with the "entertainment industry" to stop people from downloading or using copyrighted material. SOPA and PIPA if approved will give the US government the power to simply block website access that contain copyrighted material and/or sue websites like social networks, file sharing and search engines for whatever copyrighted materials their users post. Imagine Facebook being sue for someone sharing a link, or Google for someone finding a website that has fake movies in it. The same process used by the China government to censor society.
I am not American (or in America) why should I care?
Because its the beginning of the end.
USA is still politically the strongest country and can set trends worldwide. If approved we will lose the freedom that for good or bad connected information around the world. We have to thank the internet for all the progress of globalization, our freedom of speech, our access to information. That now once again will be controlled by governments like medieval times or dictatorships. Every region will have their own internet with only what your government allows you to.
The bill is really vague in what would be a copyright infringement and let the judgment up to politicians.
The Go-Daddy boycott
At first several companies decided to support SOPA, an example the web hosting company Go-Daddy. Extremely stupid decision i must say to ignore the opinion of your costumers.
It started with Reddit pulling over 51 domains away from Go-Daddy, followed by 1000+ from the Cheezburger network, and even Wikipedia. The boycott was officially on. In a matter of days over 80.000 domains were moved from the hosting and registering website.
Go-Daddy wrote and apology letter and express their opinion as now being Anti-Sopa... sure... you pretend its true, and we pretend to believe...
What was the Blackout all about?
The web decided to speak. And on the 18th of January several websites (including some top ones) decided to protest against the bill with a 24hours blackout to show the public how the web would be without freedom. Wikipedia, WordPress, Reddit, Twitpic, Mozilla, Google, FailBlog, are only some examples of websites that blackout or changed their main pages to inform users (they got my total respect).
You would've expected Facebook to do the same, but of course being one (if not the one) most powerful website in the world makes you chicken out on the thought of your stock market shares decreasing value. To be fair they would indeed have a lot of trouble with investors, but that is why we, users, like the garage-made websites, the start-ups, because they dare to take risks.
After the 18th a few senator cancel their approval, but its not over yet. The impact was way smaller than expected.
Some people are positive with Obama's opposition to the law. But to be honest he wont have much power against the chamber of senators decision, but that will be discussed on another post... There is a lot more happening and other points to go over, i hope i will be able to write later today.

I disappeared, i know. Guilty.
Today going over all that happened this year i remembered one of my year plans was to establish a blog. It clearly didn't happen so i guess ill take this plan over to the coming year.
In 2011 i got deported, worked in a casino, made a world wide commercial, moved, lost of my money, lost an ovary, was forgiven by immigration, got a new job and now im working in IT Consulting.
Long long year... but next one will sure be better.
And back to blogging!

Ultra Hyper Mega Supernode
For the last day skype has been completely offline! And i dont know the importance of skype for you but I AM FREAKING OUT!! I just never thought such a big service would let this happen (its like MSN or AIM just disappearing!)
Not much was explained, only a little note was left in the website saying in a really vage way that most of their supernodes were having problems and their engineers are working on new "mega-supernodes" the service will gradually go back to normal...

What happened to all their old servers?? Hardware problems? Software? Did they just caught on fire? Did a guy let a bottle of coke fall on them? We will never know..
But the biggest mystery what is a mega-supernode the skype engineers have been working on the last 24 hr? I have one hypothesis:
Mega Supernode: ITS ALIVE!!!!
Somehow during the creation of this post skype magically started working again (i guess because they found out i knew about their dark secrets) so this post is useless...

Gingervitus!
I was telling myself this wouldnt become a personal blog, but something serious happened in my life today and i wanna share with you guys.
I GOT GINGERVITUS!
Ok.. i didnt get gingervitus, i actually paid someone to turn me ginger. And im aware that was a bad idea. But on the fuss of the moment and a huge hair color chart i went for the orange.

The worst part is that gingervitus cant be cured in at least a few weeks as my hair has to rest from its transformation. Ill keep you guys posted on the news about my condition.
Arcade Aid
The Arcade Aid Challenge is a viral game from Flynn Lives to promote Tron: Legacy. In this game you have a map filled with game references and puzzles and you gotta name all 167 of them.
Its harder than it seems, so far i only found out 43, a lot of the references are very funny and the idea of this game is just brilliant! If you are a true gamer go check it out!
Kinect Sex Game
I didnt wanna make two post in a roll about sex, but this find it too good not to share.
A sex simulation game is being developed using the Microsoft Kinect scanning technology which allows you to "feel up" girls with your own hands.
The developers, ThriXXX, a company specialized in sex video games, on a interview to cnet.com admitted not having any permission to use the new motion controller and that all the development used information from hacker's websites.
Other features of the game are still a mystery, but truly just the demo is already pretty damn weird...
EDIT: Its confirmed that Microsoft wont authorize Adult-only games. But my personal opinion is that as its possible to hack and use kinect on PCs the game being launched underground wouldnt be such a loss as it offers (as seen the last couple of days) big exposure for a still small market.
Physical contact is just getting obsolete. Good old times when RealDoll was the creepy toy of choice..
Condoms for Geeks
Its always good to start a blog talking about everyone's favorite subject: sex.
So we set a collection of interesting and funny geeky condoms found around the web!
One of my favorites was designed by Ben Marsh, the condoms are packed individually in little boxes that resemble game boy color game cartridges inside a box just live the portable. I couldnt find information rather they are in the market or just a project.
A quite interesting one (that i couldnt fine much information about it as their website is down) is the iCondom. Some sort of high-tech condoms based on iphone design. From the condoms offered in the pack a couple are flavored, one apparently is eatable (for oral use only, named iFood), the extra-safe one (iTree), the iMemory that helps you keeping track of the erection size (WTF?) and the iLight (now for real WTF?) that by the name i would guess it lights up (WTF AGAIN?!). Last time the website was up was apparently on pre-sale and the production would only begin after a certain number of orders. Wouldn't trust that information tho, could all just be a prank.
Far more simple but still pretty fun there are the regular condoms with different nerdy packages, like the Halo "Finish the Fight Fuck" and the Trojan "rel="nofollow".
The name "Trojan" always got me thinking about computer trojan horses, some should create a "Anti spy-ware condom" with extra "firewall" protection... damn im a nerd...

And what most people are probably expecting a bunch of funny packages from Japan! (the time i lived in Tokyo i saw a huge amount of funny and geeky condom packages in sex shops or stores specialized in condoms like "condomania" but i cant seem to find a way to get the pictures online =/)
Last but not least, the freakiest one, the one i wouldnt know if i should crack up or run away, the Street Fighter very disturbing chinese condom.
If none of them are good enough you can customize your own in this website. Im not sure if its trustful but still a funny gift idea and good for a laugh!
